PEREZPUIG / Souvenir 154 es un espacio expositivo y una plataforma de investigación dedicada a la práctica de artistas caribeños interdisciplinarios, con un enfoque crítico en los modos en que la identidad cultural se configura a través de prácticas materiales y procesos de memoria colectiva. Establecida en el epicentro turístico del Viejo San Juan colonial, PEREZPUIG / Souvenir 154 constituye una subversión de las expectativas visuales producidas por la economía del visitante, proponiendo una visión del Caribe fundamentada en saberes vernáculos y epistemologías situados. Desde 2018, la galería ha presentado más de 40 exposiciones individuales y colectivas, y ha exhibido a más de 100 artistas puertorriqueños, tanto consagrados como emergentes.

La práctica artística de Kiván Quiñones Beltrán se caracteriza por la exploración de los territorios del subconsciente, la memoria y la transformación simbólica. Sus pinturas funcionan como espacios liminales donde figuras, paisajes y formas híbridas emergen y se disuelven según una lógica emocional y espiritual. A través de una síntesis de abstracción, imaginería onírica y referencias culturales afrocaribeñas, el artista crea composiciones que transforman el paisaje en un lugar de posibilidad y reconstrucción.


Los intensos tonos terrosos, verdes vibrantes y naranjas luminosos que recorren su obra evocan las complejidades ecológicas, históricas y espirituales del Caribe contemporáneo, mientras sus figuras, siempre en transición, dialogan con temas de hibridez, desplazamiento e identidad. Desde la antigüedad vemos como el mar es fuente de inspiración en la mitología griega, romana, cristiana y de las religiosidades africanas como símbolo de poder y misterio. El mar también es parte de esas identidades insulares de ser isleño, la cual es reforzada por las fronteras de cuerpos de agua.


Hoy nos encontramos con dos artistas isleños, dos generaciones que a través de sus obras están unidos por el mar, el archipiélago, el caribe y su identidad. Donde sus procesos creativos navegan al unísono por los caminos místicos del sincretismo y la espiritualidad. Ambos conscientes de una época que no vivieron pero que genéticamente la llevan dentro de su sangre como torrente acuático que da vida a sus cuerpos y

memorias ancestrales.


Gadiel Rivera Herrera, lleva un diálogo constante entre el mar y su obra. Al igual que Olokun nos ha navegado a las profundidades, no del océano sino de nuestro ser. Ejemplo de ello lo fue su pasada muestra “Mar Adentro, Historias Profundas” donde nos recuerda el mar como lecho de millones de cuerpos esclavizados y el océano, un lugar de memoria o de resistencia. Sus cerámicas a veces nos evocan esos extraños mundos que conviven en, sobre y dentro del mar que nacen de su imaginario surrealista provenientes de investigacione antropológicas, creencias y vivencias personales. En otras ocasiones sus obras sobre papel, ricas en medios mixtos y transparencias, nos recuerdan nuestra condición de isla y archipiélago, unos espacios de conexión a través del mar.


Kiván Quiñones Beltrán nos sigue sorprendiendo por la madurez de sus obras. Como hechicero de objetos encontrados, pintados o fabricados nos lleva a ese mundo de telas colgantes fascinantemente construidas. Evocando en ocasiones chozas chamánicas y altares ascendentes. Porque eso es Kiván, un chamán contemporáneo, un observador que nos ofrece mirada rápidas, nuevas visiones, otras maneras de observar lo ya contemplado. Sus obras se convierten en altares, en rituales, en actos de devoción creativa que nos llevan a reflexionar sobre los procesos en la construcción de nuestra identidad caribeña . Excelentes obras como el “Profeta y sus siete Cabezas”, el “Hacedor de lluvia” y la Serie “Pizarras”, inspiradas en la contemplación del mar, en un imaginario caminar sobre él, nos revelan la capacidad transformadora del artista para envolvernos e invitarnos a su ritual creativo.


Una interesante muestra a dúo donde ambos artistas isleños nos invitan a celebrar el agua como elemento interconector y purificador. Desde el imaginario de caminar sobre un mar caribeño que une al archipiélago antillano o insertarnos en las profundidades del mismo para reconectarnos con nuestra ancestralidad. Nos presentan esa dualidad del mar, a veces violento y mortífero pero a su vez inspirador de paz y tranquilidad.

BIOKiván Quiñones (b. 1997 Santurce, Puerto Rico) obtained a BA in Communications from the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2020). He realizes works from West African fabric, animal skulls, brooms, acrylic paint, gouache, candles, chalk, sand, river dirt, seawater, oil pastels, and bed fitters, among many other elements from his ancestral and present self, to "Redefine the language of found objects to the point that we can use them as portals." 

He has been an artist in residence L’Artocarpe in Guadeloupe (2025) in The Macedonia Institute in Upstate NY (2024) and at the Alfonso Arana Foundation, in Spain/Paris (2023). Among his most recent solo exhibitions are: Sueños que me alcanzan al despertar, Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR (2025); Everything I had but couldn't keep, Recinto Cerra, San Juan, PR (2023); A Brief Narration of Destruction,El Kilómetro, San Juan PR (2023); Power Figures, Pública, San Juan PR (2022); and They Call Me, Dragon Crab Turtle, St. Louis, MO (2022). BIOGadiel Rivera Herrera nació y se crió en San Juan, Puerto Rico, donde tiene su taller. Cursó estudios de cerámica y escultura en el Recinto de San Germán de la Universidad Interamericana y posteriormente obtuvo un Bachillerato en escultura de la Escuelas de Artes Plásticas en San Juan. Ha presentado su trabajo artístico en exposiciones individuales y colectivas en y fuera de Puerto Rico. Del 2023 al 2024 su obra forma parte de las exhibiciones Puerto Rico Negrx en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (10/2023-9/2024), El Arte como re-existencia: lo Afropuertorriqueño, en el Museo de Arte, Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez (desde 11/2023) cuya primera sede fue el Museo de Historia Antropología y Arte, del Recinto de Rio Piedras (4/2023-8/2024), así como en Alto, ancho, fondo del Museo de Arte Francisco Oller (8/2023-3/2024), en la galería Souvenir 154 Marcas del mar (3/2024-4/2024) y en La Piel Muda el Tiempo de la galería de arte Hidrante (5/2024-7/2024).
Forma parte del cohorte 2024 del Artist Fellowship otorgado por el Latin Art Forum. Fue el primer artista afropuertorriqueño en recibir la beca de la Darryl Chappell Foundation para realizar una residencia artística (2022-2023) en el Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR). Al finalizar la residencia exhibió su proyecto Mar adentro, historias profundas en la galería Cecilia Orta Allende del MAPR (5/2023-8/2023). Recientemente participó en las exposiciones About Clay en Souvenir 154 (12/2023), Small Favors del The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4/2023), Paréntesis 25 años (2021) en el Corredor Afro en Loíza, Barro 11 (2019) del Art Room en San Juan y en la Trienal de Arte de Espiritualidad Afro-Antillana y Caribeña: Pa’ los Santos (2017) en la Casa Escuté de Carolina. Recibió la Beca Lexus para su proyecto Asientos de Negros (2006) que se exhibió en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (2007). Formó parte de la exposición Paréntesis, ocho artistas negros contemporáneos que se presentó en el Museo del Arsenal de la Puntilla, San Juan y en varias sedes a través del archipiélago de Puerto Rico.En 2023 fue nombrado artista del año por la Darryl Chappell Foundation y seleccionado como miembro del International Academy of Ceramics. Ha brindado experiencias artísticas a estudiantes desde nivel elemental hasta universitario en una diversidad de instituciones académicas, así como a adultos en proyectos comunitarios. Del 2015 al 2022 ofreció los cursos de introducción a la cerámica y cerámica en torno en la División de Educación Continua y Estudios Profesionales de la Universidad de Puerto Rico Recinto de Río Piedras

José Luis Vargas ( Santurce, PR 1965 ) estudió su Bachillerato en Artes Visuales del Pratt Institute en Nueva York en 1988 y en 1991 fue parte del Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture en Maine, USA. &#38;nbsp;En el 1994 recibe su grado en Maestría del Royal College of Art en Londres. Su obra combina aspectos mágicos, rituales y sobrenaturales donde referencias de religiones caribeñas como el voodoo y la cultura popular se mezclan con aspectos autobiográficos. Ha exhibido en Londres, Alemania, New York, St. Louis, Tulsa, España, México, Chicago, República Dominicana y California. En el 2024 el Museo de Arte y Diseño de Miramar en Puerto Rico realizó la exhibición “Fenómeno” y en el 2025 comenzó su proyecto titulado “El Colegio Invisible” junto al artista y curador Guillermo Rodríguez.TEXTO CURATORIAL
Mi vida en Inglaterra a principios de los noventa, y los constantes viajes al sur de Francia en las vacaciones de verano y Navidad durante esa época, me dieron la oportunidad de estudiar, a través de acuarelas y óleos, el cielo, las nubes, el espacio entre ellas y lo que podían evocar. A esto se unieron mis investigaciones y lecturas relacionadas con las religiones y espiritualidades caribeñas y a mi estado anímico e intelectual. En estos años (1992-1994) hice mis estudios de maestría en el Royal College of Art en Londres, mientras vivía y viajaba a Londres desde Oxford y posteriormente, desde Brighton, en la costa sur de Inglaterra.

 Algo muy particular que ocurrió durante este período fue la sugerencia de uno de mis profesores de maestría, el ya fallecido artista y escritor británico Timothy Hyman. En una de sus tutorías, me recomendó que buscara información sobre los “thought forms” (formas de pensamiento), y que consiguiera y leyera el libro The Cloud of Unknowing.

 Hace dos años, en 2024, me aventuré a viajar en el tiempo y empecé a estudiar las pinturas y dibujos de esa época; a digitalizar diapositivas de mi estudio en el Royal College, de mi proceso artístico y mi estudio en Brighton; y las pinturas que estaba produciendo. Esto, porque las pinturas que estaba realizando en este momento tenían un eco muy contundente de este período en Inglaterra.

 Así fue que me di cuenta de lo sumamente importante que fue esta etapa en mi desarrollo, y para así ensanchar posibilidades visuales y conceptuales que siguen teniendo relevancia. Pero mi reencuentro con el libro The Cloud of Unknowing ha causado en mí una gran sorpresa.

 The Cloud of Unknowing, escrito de manera anónima durante esa gran era del misticismo europeo, es un texto ejemplar del siglo XIV que describe cualidades, actitudes, instrucciones, reflexiones e interioridades que funcionan como una guía y tratado espiritual de gran transcendencia. No pierde vigencia, y se coloca entre los textos que desarrollan una visión muy clara de la tradición, muy humana, de pausar y observarse de manera introspectiva, especialmente en momentos de grandes crisis y de transformaciones sociales, como las que ocurrían en el momento en que fue escrito.

En fin, mis imágenes comenzaron a ubicarse en cielos y firmamentos que estaban directamente conectados a mis pinturas y lecturas. Pero es muy importante comprender que la intención del acto contemplativo que explica este libro no está basado en la imagen de una nube, sino más bien en la metáfora de la nube del no saber, del desconocimiento que precisamente hace que el diálogo interno pueda tomar una pausa para así claudicar al silencio necesario para contemplar.

 Por eso la selección de obras de esos años y obras recientes para la muestra.

 Si bien esta selección encapsula unos momentos específicos en mi tiempo personal, con sus relaciones y asociaciones, ciertamente, y por otro lado, representan una idiosincracia muy particular de mi actitud ante el desarrollo de mi personalidad y mi producción artística. Y parte de esa idiosincracia es el ejercicio continuo de la lectura de textos espirituales. Y, sobre todo, de cómo este tipo de lecturas establece normas y leyes simbólicas y espaciales dentro de mi arte.

 El acto de leer, y de conversar con, y a través de, una lectura, es una capacidad humana que es sagrada en la medida en que podamos entender cómo enaltece el conocimiento hacia rumbos insospechados. Y para un artista, si la disciplina de leer es una cualidad coyuntural en su práctica, y si su selección de lecturas fortalece y amplifica su comprensión del mundo, se convierte en la llave a la contemplación.

 Aquí, la esencia de esta muestra. &#38;nbsp;

	BIO
Sebastián Dávila is a visual artist and designer based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Born in Lausanne in 1992, he spends his childhood and early adolescence between Puerto Rico and the United States. After returning to study in Switzerland, he earns a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from Lausanne University of Art and Design (ECAL) in 2017 and a Bachelors and Masters in Visual Arts from Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD) in 2020 and 2022.

In his work, Sebastián borrows extensively from his personal memory and the collective memory, and combines disparate cultural references to create syncretic objects of magical utility. His experiments with imagery, materials and language constitute a sort of spiritual laboratory in which he explores how object and ritual can have agency on the spectator. He works in a variety of media, spanning from paintings and drawings, to installation and sculpture.

El mar, para el mundo antiguo, fue un espacio de tránsitos, encuentros e interacciones.Podríamos buscar su origen en los diferentes relatos fundacionales que trataron de hallar unaexplicación a la existencia de esa masa de agua salada prácticamente infinita. Pero, más allá detales narraciones, constituyó un territorio mítico donde determinadas figuras sagradas y otrascriaturas de carácter legendario tuvieron a su merced el destino de aquellas personas que seatrevían a surcarlo. Se diría que esa pulsión ancestral es la que subyace en esta exposición de Cristina Córdova. 
A medio camino entre los ritos de las culturas mediterráneas y las caribeñas, laartista nos sumerge en un ámbito acuático dentro del cual una galería de personajes alberga ensus formas los reflejos de ese pasado, aunque sin dejar a un lado las realidades y los testimoniosde un presente no tan ajeno. Es en dicha dicotomía, precisamente, donde el mar juega su papel decreador y depositario de una memoria común: no es casualidad, en efecto, que de su espuma(re)surja una Venus anacrónica, ni tampoco que otras figuras—cabezas, fragmentoscorporales—parezcan rememorar a aquellos seres, divinos o no, fruto de un subconscientecolectivo tan remoto como actual. 
¿Cómo deberíamos, pues, embarcarnos en este mar rebosantede murmullos y ecos? ¿De qué modo habríamos de ocupar un hueco en esa nave repleta de vocesy anhelos? ¿Acaso no resulta paradójico que estas creaciones se materialicen a través de laacción de la tierra y el fuego? Quizá sea esta marea la que nos permita desvelar, con el ir y venirde las olas, las huellas dejadas por otras manos en el fondo (marino) de nuestra historia.

The sea, for the ancient world, was a space of passages, encounters, and interactions. Its origin could be sought in the various foundational narratives that attempted to explain the existence of that virtually infinite mass of salt water. Yet beyond such accounts, it stood as a mythical territory in which certain sacred figures and other legendary beings held at their mercy the destinies of those who dared to traverse it. It is this ancestral impulse, one might say, that underpins the exhibition by Cristina Córdova. 
Positioned midway between the rituals of Mediterranean and Caribbean cultures, the artist immerses us in an aquatic realm where a gallery of characters bears in its forms the echoes of that past, while at the same time acknowledging the realities and testimonies of a not-so-distant present. It is within this very dichotomy that the sea assumes its role as creator and repository of a shared memory: it is no coincidence, indeed, that from its foam an anachronistic Venus (re)emerges, nor that other figures—heads, bodily fragments—seem to recall those beings, divine or otherwise, born of a collective subconscious as remote as it is contemporary.

How, then, are we to embark upon this sea brimming with murmurs and echoes? In what manner might we find a place within that vessel filled with voices and longings? And is it not paradoxical that these creations should materialize through the action of earth and fire? Perhaps it is this tide that allows us, through the ebb and flow of the waves, to reveal the traces left by other hands on the (marine) floor of our history.Text by Daniel Expósito

ARTIST BIO:Cristina Córdova es una artista contemporánea e instructora de escultura oriunda de Puerto Rico. Córdova completó su licenciatura en la Universidad de Puerto Rico y obtuvo una maestría en bellas artes en la New York State College of Ceramics de la Universidad de Alfred.

Su obra forma parte de la colección permanente del Smithsonian American Art Museum; el Everson Museum; el Mint Museum of Craft + Design; el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico; el Museo de Puerto Rico; el Asheville Art Museum y el Mobile Art Museum, entre otros.

Ha recibido numerosas becas y distinciones, entre ellas la Medalla Conmemorativa Herbert Adams de la National Sculpture Society, una beca del NC Arts Council, una beca de reconocimiento de la Virginia Groot Foundation, varios premios de la Asociación Internacional de Críticos de Arte de Puerto Rico, una beca United States Artist y el Maxwell-Hanrahan Craft Award 2024. En 2021, Córdova publicó Mastering Sculpture: The Figure in Clay con Quarry Books. Su obra ha sido ampliamente difundida en los principales medios de arte y cerámica, incluyendo la portada de Ceramics Monthly, y fue presentada por Craft in America, en PBS, en su episodio dedicado a la Identidad.

Cristina ha impartido cursos y realizado demostraciones en todo el mundo. Sus residencias, talleres y clases incluyen la Universidad de Harvard, la Universidad de California, la Universidad de Nebraska, la Universidad de Georgia, la Escuela de Artes de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte, Ceramistas de Reñaca en Chile, la Universidad Nacional de Australia en Canberra, Gaya Ceramics en Bali, Penland School of Crafts (NC), Haystack Mountain School (ME), Santa Fe Clay (NM), Odyssey Center for Ceramics (NC) y Anderson Ranch (CO), entre otros.

Dentro del absurdismo y el existencialismo juguetón se encuentra la “Meditacción”: un concepto que explora el cuerpo distorsionado y fragmentado no como violencia visual, sino como una expansión del cuerpo más allá de su anatomía. La exhibición reúne a dos artistas, Stephanie Colón y Friedel Kauffmann, cuyas obras coinciden en esta búsqueda: un mecanismo imperfecto y, a la vez, profundamente lúdico para habitar el absurdo contemporáneo.


Hay un pulso espiritual, casi místico-sensorial, pero despojado de solemnidad: una búsqueda intuitiva que entiende que el trance puede surgir en cualquier parte. En la manifestación del niñe interior, el espacio sin limitaciones permite que el cuerpo mismo se transforme en una expresión de libertad. Allí ocurre una verdadera liberación de la conciencia y, desde la mirada exterior, el cuerpo aparece como cambiador de formas, mapa, tótem.

La trama es parte esencial del textil al ser la base que sostiene eltejido. Al entramar se van cruzando fibras para construir poco a poco una estructura fuerte. Se arraigan en las tradiciones textile ancestrales que son principalmente femeninas. Amanda Forastieri busca en las telas y las fibras sus raíces boricuas y caribeñas. Logra arraigarse al territorio mientras tiñe con plantas de Aibonito, teje con fibras de Aguadilla, entrelaza, afelpa, cose, deshila y transforma desde Caguas. Crea un bosquecon piezas escultóricas que evocan los arquetipos femeninos que más le resuenan, los que la seducen para que le vayan marcando el camino y no perderse. Resurge la memoria de telas y agujascompartida con su abuela paterna que le sirvió de base para esto nuevos espacios lúdicos en los que se adentra.
Desarma sus memorias, su entrenamiento y la materialidad que encuentra para reagruparlos y develar las piezas de artes que imagina. Ahora juega con figuras geométricas y orgánicas para cubrir y descubrir las cuerpas. Las piezas que incluye en la muestr son las capas, o las pieles, que va soltando mientras se adentra hacia el monte en búsqueda de un camino propio que la arraigue a la tierra.

La obra consiste en un textil elaborado con pencas de palma de coco, intervenido con materiales encontrados y donados como fragmentos textiles, bolsas plásticas y cables eléctricos. A través de esta combinación, se articula un diálogo entre lo orgánico y lo sintético, así como entre prácticas tradicionales y contemporáneas.

En el contexto de Puerto Rico, donde el algodón posee una larga historia, la pieza señala que la mayoría de los textiles consumidos, y que eventualmente llegan a los ecosistemas, son importados. Muchos de estos combinan algodón con poliéster, una fibra derivada del petróleo, comúnmente utilizada en camisetas.

La obra forma parte de una colaboración entre la diseñadora Amanda María Forastieri y la tejedora Taizé Sisco Carbonell, quienes construyen lentamente un textil no orgánico sobre una base de palma mediante la incorporación de materiales recuperados. Este proyecto se inserta en un estudio antropológico sobre la materialidad caribeña del siglo XXI y propone una reflexión en torno a sistemas regenerativos de diseño.

Título: Chopines-Estatus de Territorio


Descripción:
Caminar sobre historia, es también cargarla. Estos chopines criollos, inspirados en los chopines del siglo XVI —calzado italiano del siglo XVI y símbolo de opulencia —pretenden recordarnos que la altura siempre ha sido un privilegio. Hoy, ese mismo deseo de dejar claro el estatus al que quieres pertenecer, se traslada al mundo contemporáneo a través de llevar puestos un par de tenis en tendencia en su estado nuevo de paquete.&#38;nbsp;La pieza plantea una crítica política al estatus actual de Puerto Rico como territorio colonizado, literal y simbólico. Las plataformas son hechas y moldeadas a mano con foam y recubiertas en cuero de oveja mientras que el calzado completo&#38;nbsp;está&#38;nbsp;intervenido con plaster, material que evoca el peso de construcciones mal mantenidas y maquilladas como lo son las calles llenas de boquetes y las edificaciones que aparentan firmeza cuando en realidad se sostienen a duras penas. Este calzado invita a conversar sobre los&#38;nbsp;materiales a nuestro alrededor; estos chopines criollos son altos no por vanidad, sino por denuncia porque en esta isla, el suelo es irregular, las fachadas comunican y el estatus es una ilusión que cuesta caro.

-------Es un placer anunciar nuestra participación en Untitled Art Fair en Miami Beach, donde estamos presentes en el booth N32 de la sección NEST con una selección de obras de Sofía del Mar Collins y Enrique Rivera Príncipe, dos artistas cuyas prácticas entrelazan mito, espiritualidad y una profunda reflexión sobre la relación del ser humano con el paisaje y el cosmos.

Sofía del Mar Collins desarrolla un imaginario en el que lo acuático y lo celeste se fusionan a partir de sus experiencias en el manantial de Guayaney, en Puerto Rico. En sus obras, los peces, las figuras híbridas y las geometrías platónicas abren un espacio donde la percepción se expande hacia territorios intuitivos y etéreos, invitando a contemplar el paisaje como un umbral hacia lo simbólico y lo misterioso.

En paralelo, Enrique Rivera Príncipe explora el tránsito entre lo espiritual, lo ancestral y lo cósmico mediante personajes que atraviesan procesos de transformación, señales que orientan caminos interiores y formas luminosas que sugieren conexiones entre distintos planos de existencia. Su obra propone una lectura abierta, donde cada espectador puede construir su propia narrativa en diálogo con estos elementos.

Sofía del Mar Collins develops an imaginative universe in which aquatic and celestial realms merge, drawn from her experiences in the natural spring of Guayaney  in the karstic region of Manatí, Puerto Rico. In her works, fish, hybrid figures, and Platonic geometries open a space where perception expands toward intuitive and ethereal territories, inviting viewers to encounter the landscape as a threshold to the symbolic and the mysterious.

In parallel, Enrique Rivera Príncipe explores the movement between the spiritual, ancestral, and cosmic through characters undergoing transformation, signals that guide interior pathways, and luminous forms that suggest connections across different planes of existence. His work encourages an open reading, allowing each viewer to build their own narrative in dialogue with these elements.

SOFIA DEL MAR COLLINS

BIOSofía del Mar Collins (b.1995, San Juan, Puerto Rico) creates projects across painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video, and performance. To turn into rain and fall again was her most recent solo exhibition at Rachel Uffner Gallery (New York, NY, 2024) following Nadie in casa her first solo show (Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR, 2023) after completing her MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College (2021). Recent exhibitions include participations in FAMILY/TREE (Chozick Family Art Gallery, New York, NY, 2025), Perspectives (Embajada, San Juan, PR, 2025), MECA Art Fair (Souvenir 154, Santo Domingo, D.R, 2024), Cortar, Coser, Quebrar, Cuidar, Quemar (Souvenir 154 satellite exhibition in Casa Aboy, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2024), Tamo Aquí/We here (Embajada, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2022), En busca del paisaje perdido (El Nuevo Hidrante, San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2022), Extra Terrestrial (Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York, NY, 2022). Sofia graduated with the Geraldine Putnam Prize for Visual Arts (2017) from Sarah Lawrence College, where she concentrated BA studies in Sociology and Visual Arts. Her work forms part of Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection, Pérez Art Museum, and Green Family Art Foundation.&#38;nbsp;Sofía currently lives and works in San Juan, Puerto Rico.


ENRIQUE RIVERA PRINCIPE

BIOEnrique Rivera Príncipe (b. 1993, Ponce, Puerto Rico) is an artist whose detailed hand drawings and paintings explore the movement between the spiritual, ancestral, and cosmic. His work often centers on characters undergoing transformation, signals that guide interior pathways, and luminous forms that suggest connections across different planes of existence, encouraging viewers to construct their own narratives in dialogue with these elements. His artistic foundation began at the Museo de Arte de Ponce, where he participated in educational and community based programs in collaboration with institutions such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

Rivera’s exhibition history reflects his ongoing participation in contemporary art scenes across Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the broader region. He first participated in MECA in 2019, marking an important step in the visibility of his work. In 2021, his work entered the Casa Mella Russo collection in Santo Domingo. In 2022, he was included in the group exhibition En busca del Paisaje Perdido at Hidrante Gallery.

In 2024, Rivera expanded his presence through several exhibitions, including MECA in the Dominican Republic with Souvenir 154 Gallery, the group shows La Piedra Vulnerable at Hidrante Gallery, Puto Calor at Souvenir 154 Gallery, Amantes de la Noche at Galería Kilómetro, and his solo exhibition Jurutungo at Souvenir 154 Gallery.

In 2025, his work continues to reach new audiences with his participation in Untitled Art Fair in Miami Beach, and through his residency at San Juan 721 in Puerto Rico.

Rivera continues to develop a focused and highly detailed body of work that reflects an ongoing engagement with place, transformation, and contemporary Caribbean narratives.

Las figuras que habitan la obra de Kiván Quiñones Beltrán podrían transmutarse en muchos personajes: una presencia ancestral, una referencia a la pintura haitiana o una encarnación del tan elusivo duende de Federico García Lorca, asomándose a la posesión. Sus seres transitan entre estados liminales, entre medios como la pintura y la instalación. El espacio de la galería se centra en la cama deshecha y vivida, la cual es a su vez un portal entre el sueño y la vigilia, el inconsciente y el consciente. Es también el locus del principio y del fin de la vida y de los estados de conciencia.

En su práctica, Quiñones explora referentes de tradiciones ritualísticas afrocaribeñas y sincréticas, como lo son el vudú, los nkisi del Congo, títeres Sogo Bò de Mali y prácticas de adivinación del África Central. Las tres instalaciones reconcilian estas ancestralidades con los lenguajes formales de la contemporaneidad, esto es en homenaje a The End of the 20th Century (1984) de Joseph Beuys y My Bed (1998) de Tracey Emin. Estos seres van en peregrinación por el espacio y por el tiempo moderno. Altar, trono y archivo: el artista crea un contexto desde donde reformular la mirada contemporánea, canalizando las corrientes que vinculan a nuestro archipiélago con otras temporalidades y tradiciones espirituales y estéticas. Aquí y ahora, el Caribe es un portal al futuro.

BIOKiván Quiñones (b. 1997 Santurce, Puerto Rico) obtained a BA in Communications from the Universidad Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico (2020). He realizes works from West African fabric, animal skulls, brooms, acrylic paint, gouache, candles, chalk, sand, river dirt, seawater, oil pastels, and bed fitters, among many other elements from his ancestral and present self, to "Redefine the language of found objects to the point that we can use them as portals." 


He has been an artist in residence L’Artocarpe in Guadeloupe (2025) in The Macedonia Institute in Upstate NY (2024) and at the Alfonso Arana Foundation, in Spain/Paris (2023). Among his most recent solo exhibitions are: Sueños que me alcanzan al despertar, Souvenir 154, San Juan, PR (2025); Everything I had but couldn't keep, Recinto Cerra, San Juan, PR (2023); A Brief Narration of Destruction,El Kilómetro, San Juan PR (2023); Power Figures, Pública, San Juan PR (2022); and They Call Me, Dragon Crab Turtle, St. Louis, MO (2022).
