ABOUT THE ARTISTS

GADIEL RIVERA HERRERA
Gadiel Rivera Herrera’s practice explores points of connection between plants, marine life, animals, and the spiritual realm. As he describes it, his work seeks to understand these forms as “interlocutors between the physical and spiritual worlds, and between past and present.”
In this presentation for the Armory Show, the sea becomes a space where ancestral memory is held and transformed, with submerged histories reimagined through coral, mangrove, marine forms, and new organic life.
Rivera Herrera’s work moves between the natural and the spiritual, allowing bodies, organisms, and landscapes to exist in states of continual transformation. Through ceramics and sculpture, he constructs a language in which the Caribbean seabed and coastal landscape become not only sites of memory, but also of regeneration, continuity, and return.
BIO
Gadiel Rivera Herrera was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he currently maintains his studio. He studied ceramics and sculpture at the San Germán Campus of the Inter American University of Puerto Rico and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan. He has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Puerto Rico and abroad.

-------
